Wedding PartyThis is a featured page

We will have a small wedding party consisting of a best man and one groomsman, a matron of honor and one bridesmaid.

If only I can be so peaceful and joyful a bride!

Frances (bridesmaid) and Julie (bride) at
Julie and Nick's April 2005 wedding.

Matron of Honor: Julie May

I met Julie in the eighth grade at Salk Middle School, when she tried to recruit me to the cross country team. Two years later, I finally started running - and I haven't stopped since! Julie has been my teammate, my fellow student, my example of true Christian discipleship, and my best friend. She has encouraged and supported me with her listening ear, comforting words, Godly wisdom, honest sharing, genuine love, and - most of all - with her prayers.

Years ago I marked a passage in Isaiah "Julie": "The Lord God has given me a well-trained tongue, that I might know how to speak to the weary a word that will rouse them. Morning after morning he opens my ear that I may hear" (50:4-5). I am grateful that she has shared with me the lessons that the Lord teaches her.

Julie and her husband Nick live in Spokane, WA. Julie works as a nurse in a neonatal intensive care unit, caring for fragile babies.

Bridesmaid: Megan Wickard

I met Megan in 2005, when she returned from a semester in Rome to live with the Zwick family in New Jersey. A convert to Catholicism, Megan inspires me with her earnest desire to know more about God and the riches of our faith. She soaks up truth and beauty like a sponge and then squeezes herself out in loving service of others, ever trusting that God will fill her up again.

Megan recently began serving moms and newborns as a doula in northern Virginia. She reassures, supports, and encourages women through their pregnancies, deliveries, and first weeks of caring for their babies. Her gentleness and love bless those moms (and all of her friends, including me!) abundantly.

Edwin with Adell

Edwin and Adell

Best Man: Edwin Vihlen

Edwin and I coached swimming together in 2000 at the University of Miami's club swimming program. Ed's family basically adopted me while I lived in Miami, 900 miles away from my family. I distinctly remember living at his house for a week in between moves to and from New Orleans in 2001. Whether it was keeping an eye on Grandma Vaughn (especially during card games), enjoying thanksgiving dinner, cheering at football games, hanging out at Coconut Grove, or surviving 5 day swim meets, Edwin and I shared many crazy and fun times.

In Scripture, there are many references with the term "righteousness"; Edwin embodies this virtue in how he treats and regards friends and family. Edwin is "good people" and we've been able to remain good friends through the ups and downs of life.

Edwin currently works for a cruiseline and he's enjoying traipsing around the world, working his way up the corporation. Frances and I will be very fortunate to have him off the ship and at our wedding.
-David

Groomsman: Tommy Starkweather
aka "Trigga" & "Tommy Two-Tone"

Tommy and I met while coaching for a swimming club program in the Fort Lauderdale area of Florida. Tommy is full of life and gives a lot of himself in kindness, generosity, and service to everyone he meets. If there's an ocean with good waves within a three hour drive, you'll find Tommy out on the water, surfing. If there's no ocean around, he'll be hanging out with the love of his life, Molly.

Tommy has a gift for accepting people as who they are and he is quick to be friendly and gracious. His genuine and caring nature, evidenced by his work in coaching, his giving in his relationships, and his desire for truth, truly gives glory to God.

Currently, Tommy is working in Hyperbaric Therapy in Southern Louisiana, and he reports that he enjoys the work and the patients. We're grateful Tommy will be able to leave Cajunland for Charlotte, a three hour drive to the beach.
